It is the day before my big trip to Paris, a lifelong dream of mine, and I am a experiencing mixture emotions. I am excited, nervous, happy, prematurely lonely and anxious. After all this time, I still feel ill prepared. I don’t have a concrete itinerary, my clothes aren’t completely packed, and I haven’t memorized the phrases I previously identified as “essential”.
But, despite all of these details, 24 hrs from now I will be sitting in the Philadelphia airport, waiting for my zone to be called so I can board my plane, one backpack and carry-on suitcase in hand, and depart for the City of Lights. Yes, I only bring one carry-on (a new Samsonite, a practical yet wonderful gift from my mom), a backpack, and a tiny cross-body purse, and let me tell you it makes all the difference. Instead of struggling with my belongings as I leave the airport, board the RER and emerge into Parisian life, I transport myself with the ease and confidence of a seasoned traveler.
Curious about what goes into my bag(s)? Well here you go! An inside peek at all that goes into 2 manageable bags.
Into the suitcase goes:
Clothes: See Gill’s rolling method video here. It is a life (and space) saver!
1 pair leggings
1 pair skinny jeans
1 black, quarter sleeved mini dress
2 black, 1 grey, and 1 white tank(s)
2 cashmere sweaters (1 twin set)
Folded up tote bag for use while in Paris (and to bring back souvenirs ;) )
3 pair ‘winter socks’, 1 pair tights, 1 pair dress socks
1 bag with makeup (non liquids)
flip flops (for communal shower)
Other (in front zippered compartment)
small book of city maps
Snacks & teas
quart sized ziplock of liquids.
Into the backpack:
guide book & magazine
Very small cross body purse (similar to this one but all black leather)
money belt (goes under clothes) ( in my bag until I get to Paris then on it goes! Don’t worry, it can’t be seen and you’ll be happy you have it- peace of mind)
Well that was easy, wasn’t it? ;) See you tomorrow at PHL.
