I love Philadelphia. There, it’s out there. I’m so happy living here i can’t imagine being anywhere else. What’s more, the past few weekends have presented my love and I with opportunity to explore outside of our “bubble”. When you live in a city, no matter how vast, you exist in a little bubble. It’s inevitable. It takes true effort to extend beyond it.
Saturday, we hopped the Frankford-Market Line to the Dauphin stop in search of a vintage shop that shall remain nameless until I expose it via a subsequent post ( Gill, you’re going to love it). After an hour or so of scouring through countless items of Yves St. Laurent, Dior, and blank label items, we set out in search of Philadelphia Brewing Company.
Every Saturday, Philadelphia Brewing Company offers complimentary tastings and tours.
We arrived at the brewery, a large warehouse, and headed up the stairs to the Tasting Room. There we found a small bar with 7 beers on tap. The bartender presented us each with a card and proceeded to tell me that we could try each beer… for FREE. Damn, nothing like free beer after a long week. The different styles of beer were wonderful, and did their job of encouraging us to buy a case.
At last, Tour 2 was called and we headed up the ramp to the brewery. For about 20 minutes, we were entertained by a charismatic tour guide showing off the brewery. With every turn, he showed another part and entertained us with another one liner.
The best part perhaps was when he grabbed freshly bottled beer off of the conveyor belt and cracked them open for us to taste… heavenly.
We headed back to the bar to claim our last couple of samples and were on our way home. We strolled through Northern Liberties where we stopped at El Camino Real for some nourishment. I housed the Smoked Turkey BLT. Absolutely divine. I would definitely return for their variety of Tex-Mex fare.
With full bellies we rolled home to our perfect little bubble with appreciation for what exists beyond.
