Now that we’ve tipped over into November, the festivities are about to begin. This time of year is by far my favorite. Nature is in unique bloom and life is bursting with gatherings, food and love. Sure, there are lists to make, and plans to negotiate, but at its roots, this time of year is so, so special.
I find that planning ahead it critical to enjoying the holidays. That and not overextending yourself in a thousand different directions. You got it? With my new job starting Monday, I’m getting things on the road early so that I don’t overwhelm myself when Thanksgiving arrives less than 3 weeks from now.
I planned out a menu that I think with suit the tastes for food and nostalgia of all the guests and my desire to experiment a bit in the kitchen. Here it goes!
Thanksgiving Menu 2012
Crudite with Ranch and Olive Oil condiments
Kalamata Olive tapenade and hummus with assorted crackers
Shrimp with Cocktail Sauce
Main (This year I’m trying 2 small turkeys versus one huge)
Turkey #1: Herb Butter Rubbed Turkey
Turkey #2: Pancetta Wrapped Turkey
Brown Butter Mashed Potatoes
Green Beans with Shallots
Sweet Potato Gratin
Cranberry Sauce and Relish
Double Apple Pie (Flour Bakery recipe)
A couple other surprise desserts
So tell me, what are your Thanksgiving ‘must-haves’ and what are you experimenting with this year?
