We had a really wonderful weekend and I have to say, I was just as sad as ever to see it go. It was filled with good food, perfect weather, and great friends. Doesn’t get much better than that.
Friday night we spent the evening strolling the city, visiting a few shops, grabbing individual bottles of beer at Hawthorne‘s and taking them to Blue Belly BBQ. If you haven’t been to Blue Belly, you must! It’s right on the corner of 6th and Catharine streets and it’s the perfect week end treat. One of my favorites is the Korean Beef sandwich…absolutely mouthwatering.
Saturday brought sunny skies and part one of our Spring cleaning initiative. In between it all, I had errands to run and food to prepare for our little get together. Pretty much my entire menu was very make-ahead friendly which made for easy prep and lots of time to enjoy our friends once they arrived. The weather was chilly but warm enough to keep our sweaters on and enjoy the trees in bloom surrounding our little oasis of a patio.
We sipped white wine (Bota Box, I can’t recommend it highly enough), snacked on marinated olives, mozzarella balls, and mushrooms, and a big ‘ol bowl of hummus before devouring our meal.
After, for a little something sweet, I grabbed a couple of milk chocolate-hazelnut chocolate bars and broke them up and served them along with some raw walnut halves. I took out a piece of baked lemon Ricotta, one of my favorites from Claudio‘s, and it was the perfect sweet treat to end our meal.
Sunday we lounged and read and just savored the day before packing up leftovers from the night before and taking a long walk to the Schuylkill River Park. A perfect spot for people watching in a very residential area. Our first and definitely not last picnic of the year.
Walking home we started dreaming about our next trip in the Fall. Where should we go?! Any hot destinations you’re dreaming about visiting? We have only a week so we’re trying to look for direct flights from Philadelphia or Newark, NJ. Send any ideas my way!
